Bipasha Basu's Fitness Secrets

“I want to live fit and healthy for 100 years.” Bipasha Basu, one of the fittest female actors in Bollywood, has always stressed on the importance of having a fit body.
Fitness has always played a vital role in her life and she owes a major portion of her success to her toned and glamorous physique. She has not only made women envious of her but has also inspired them to get into shape. Her love for fitness even saw her releasing a DVD titled ‘Bipasha Basu: Love Yourself’, which was highly appreciated by everyone. Its resounding success has inspired Bipasha so much that she has decided to release a second fitness DVD for her fans and fitness enthusiasts.
Discipline
Discipline is crucial when it comes to leading a healthy lifestyle. Without discipline, you cannot set up a fitness regime. Having a disciplined approach in life helps you to work towards your goals with focus and determination.
Bipasha Basu is extremely disciplined when it comes to following her fitness regime. “I combine a lot of other modern techniques to devise a regime for myself. I also plan a routine for my friends. For a perfect body, it is important to have discipline and regular exercise.”
Hard Work
Success never comes without hard work. In order to flaunt that perfect body, you must follow fitness regimes religiously. Restricting yourself to a certain diet can also prove to be an uphill task and requires great deal of hard work.
Bipasha, too, doesn’t believe in shortcuts and has worked very hard to achieve that enviable figure. “I worked hard to carve a bikini figure. I toiled hard in the gym and went on a high protein diet; I kept away from salt and had to curb my sweet tooth. I avoided junk food too.”
Importance of Working Out
There is no other way to fitness than working out. Going on crash diets or slimming pills can never bring you satisfactory, long term effects. You need to have a proper workout plan to get that perfect shape. Regular exercise can and will show you wonders in the long run.
Follow Bipasha Basu when it comes to following a fitness routine. “I’m a fitness enthusiast and it takes a lot of discipline and special care to get a fit body. It is important that you exercise everyday to stay fit. The main emphasis should be on working out the abs and lower limbs,"
Water
Whether it’s the doctor or your grandma, the importance of water has always been stressed on. Water can be magical when it comes to keeping various health ailments at bay. Not only does it flush out harmful toxins from the body but it also keeps your skin glowing. Drink a lot of water every day if you want to cleanse your system and feel healthy from within.
According to Bipasha, “even if you don’t feel thirsty, keep yourself well- hydrated by having lots of water. I drink around eight glasses of water every day”.
Eat Right
All that sweating out in the gym would be rendered useless if you aren’t eating right. The food you eat is as crucial as your everyday workout in the gym. Everything you eat has a direct effect on your body which is why you must be very careful about following a strict diet.
Bipasha eats everything except red meat and rice. “Lots of greens, chicken, dal, roti and vegetables form a part of my daily diet. For beautiful skin, I recommend fish, barley, nuts, seeds, sprouts, yogurt, fruits and vegetables—especially the leafy, green variety. Fish and nuts are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids that help with glowing skin.”
Change
Sticking to one kind workout can often become monotonous which may lead to your losing interest in it. The element of change must be introduced in order to keep the excitement going in your everyday fitness routine.
Bipasha endorses changing your workout routine every once in a while and does so herself. “I change my fitness routine regularly and don’t stick to just one format. I include both cardio and muscle training in my routine. You need not be a gym person—a brisk walk, a run in a park, taking the stairs instead of an elevator can all help in making you fit.”
In the quest for fitness, change leads to continuity.
Love Yourself
Ultimately, it is all about loving yourself. Once you start loving yourself you also start taking care of your body. Neglecting your body is the worst thing you can do and its ill-effects will be seen in your latter years.
Bipasha Basu’s first DVD was rightly named ‘Love Yourself’ which surely inspired a lot of people to do the same. The actor says, “I take good care of myself because I love myself. I believe it is important to invest in your health. Just as we invest in property, relationships and a career, we should invest in health too, otherwise other investments won’t matter. It all boils down to nothing if your health isn’t in place. I plan to launch another fitness DVD soon.”

8 Reasons Why Yoga Beats the Gym

By nature, I am not a comparer. Everything has its plusses and minuses in my book (except, of course, yoga which is all plusses!). So, while I am not anti-gym, I do think that yoga kicks the gym's derrière on every level, and you can kick your own (butt, that is) in yoga, literally, if you feel like it!
People are always curious as to "what else I do" to "work out" other than yoga. The answer? Nothing! Yoga is everything my body needs to function at it's absolute best. Here's why:
It's efficient! Why would I waste so much time at the gym working each part of my body separately when I can connect all of the dots and do it all at once with yoga? No amount of lifting weights is going to make my arms as strong as holding up my own body weight in yoga. Also, practically everything you do in yoga is engaging your core, from core-centric poses to moving from pose to pose, using your core to stabilize your body. And in different inversions and arm balances, yoga allows you to raise your heartbeat, strengthen your muscles, and lengthen them out all at once. How's that for efficiency?
It can count as cardio. All you have to do is try a few sun salutations or any flow at a good, steady pace, matching your breath to your movement. Or, if you are a bit more adventurous, try some Kundalini kriyas (like the Kundalini frogs in the step-by-step breakdown of shoulder press pose.)
Yoga is not a competitive sport! I prefer yoga to the gym as I steer clear of anything that involves pitting myself against others. Isn't there enough competition in work and in life in general? While some people thrive on trying to be the fastest in spin class or trying to run longer than the woman on the treadmill next to them, in yoga it doesn't matter what any one else is doing. There is no comparing or competing because there is only you.
It saves money. In fact, yoga doesn't have to cost a penny. All you need to practice is you. You can wear any clothes that allow you to move, and you don't even need a yoga mat : grass and carpet work just fine. If you want some inspiration, there are plenty of great, inexpensive yoga DVDs or free online videos.
You can do it anywhere. With no equipment necessary, it doesn't matter if you are at home, at your office, on the road-or even in the streets of NYC, as in the SHAPE Yoga Anywhere videos. So long as you have the desire, you can strike a few poses.
Yoga will help you lose weight. Practicing yoga changes your mind: It changes the way you approach life, your body, and eating. Yoga shows you how to appreciate your body for all of the amazing things that it can do for you and points you in the direction of wanting to fill your body with the best possible fuel rather than processed junk food. And changing your mind about your body and the foods you feed it will be a much more effective weight-loss tool than burning a bunch of calories in an aggressive kick-boxing class and then mindlessly plowing through equal or more calories later that day.
8 Super nutrients for weight-loss
1. Monounsaturated fats: Replacing carbohydrates in your diet with monounsaturated fats will help you slim down by shuttling fat away from your midsection (See my Ask the Diet Doctor column on this topic for a more in-depth explanation).
Where to get it: Avocados, Macadamia nuts, and olive oil are great sources of monounsaturated fats. They also come packaged with great nutrients such as antioxidants (in olive oil), fiber (in avocado), and B-vitamins (in macadamia nuts).
Hello, variety. Yoga can be different every single day, if you want it to be. Want a challenge? Throw some arm balances and inversions into your practice. Need to focus? Try a few balance poses sequentially on the same foot. Or if you're seeking relaxation, hang out in pigeon , a few seated forward folds, and a restorative backbend.
No injuries. In yoga, you learn to unite your body and mind. This allows you to move with ease and pay attention to how your body is feeling at all times, so you move in a way that feels good for you and not one that puts you in places your body doesn't want to be. The result? An injury-free, strong, healthy, whole you.
In all fairness, I realize that this is a pretty one-sided argument (okay, a totally one-sided argument). But, for those who ask, "What else you need other than yoga?" I say: If you are going to chose one over the other, chose the one that saves you time, saves you money, makes you feel great, and helps you lose weight.
So you know why we think yoga beats the gym--what do you guys think? Are you team yoga or team treadmill? Sound off in the comments below!

Shilpa Shetty's Fitness Mantra - Yoga

When Richard Gere, fueled by the Endemol's British TV show Big Brother, started kissing Shipla Shetty on stage publicly as if there was no tomorrow and you sat otionless to gape at the spectacle hating Gere wholeheartedly, it was Shilpa's figure that stood out! A figure that is so perfect that she is usually the icon that the world knows Indian girls by.
The Perfect 10 girl has what it takes simply by her diet and exercises.  Shilpha swears by yoga. She even teaches yoga, she is that kind of expert in it. She says that she was not serious about yoga when she started to practice it. Soon she realized, egged on by her yoga teacher, that yoga is something that touches the mind, body and soul. And, once you are hooked to it, it is for life. She ascertains that life changes for the better. When yoga comes into your life, it is a new way of life.
She strictly adheres to her yoga routine. She is aware how yoga enhances concentration, how body maintains its flexibility and agility. With practice, the postures will improve and breathe control will be effortless.  She works out with the additional purpose of healing other than to strengthen the body. She know the value of music in unwinding. The relaxed atmosphere with apt music could give wonderfully effective results.
She uses yoga to release stress and tension and to increase vitality. She knows how to maintain  a perfect blend of exercises and how to maintain the female figure that is accentuated by curves.
She has released a DVD, "Shilpha's Yoga" to be released in Europe. She makes the viewer privy to the knowledge about how she maintains her body lean and toned. At 33, she may not be getting any younger, but to look at her and her skin glowing, you would not believe she is 33.
You would think that she must hardly be eating well and rich food should be out of bounds for her. No, she is not the one to push away a good meal. She does indulge herself now and then. It does not mean she stuffs herself with butter chicken and naan everyday. She eats well,  does her exercises and yoga until she is satisfied.
Shilpa's breakfast consists of organic food that is fresh from the garden or fresh fresh jucices.  Not for her the frozen foods unless she is famished.
Surprisingly, she loves eating out and goes for Chinese and Japanese food. But careful that she is, she does not go beyond sashimi or seaweed salad. She might add black cod and some soup. Carbonated drinks are not for her. They actively wrinkle the skin and dehydrate.
